Earth Dam Design for Drinking Water Management and Flood Control: A Case Study

Water management for natural channels is a frequent challenge due to the inefficient usage of water resources. The 2030 Agenda United Nations (SDG 6 sustainable development) focuses its attention on and sanitation. Sara Guerrero site, located in Mocache municipality Los Ríos province (Ecuador), has issues related access drinking water, flood control, crop irrigation that affect 4300 people 24,000 hectares. river overflows throughout rainy season (late December early May), whereas there noticeable shortage during dry season. This project aims design multiple-use earth dam Vinces River, simulating resulting flow extreme cases possible failure. Such study implies development contingency plan preservation life. It considers (i) breach analysis design, (ii) hydraulic model using ArcMap HEC-RAS software packages. includes waterproofing system controls leaks cymbal spillway, mainly raw collection. generated showed shorter failure time, higher maximum output flow. Modelling revealed four towns would be affected 31 h cases. approach offers comprehensive this community with regards control.
